Every fisherman for the last month who has visited us and fished from boats ,banks or piers has had an incredible record that every fisherman has caught. With some bag limits of well over 20 rainbows, Browns, Blues & even the odd amazing Tiger Trout coming out. What a fantastic time of year to fish at Cleveleymere if you have not visited us recently come & visit us soon your missing a treat....
...Richard Newbolt from Lancaster has had his best catch again this month,15 Rainbows then following day 13 missing loads more...Richard said ''every third cast brought a anticipated bite with small humungus ''....The Autumn months are at last here,every fly fisherman is getting good catch rates, such a pleasant time to fly fish at Cleveleymere, so many areas to choose from what ever the weather.....Floating line with fast sub surface fluorocarbon 5lb the best method Montana , PTN even buzzers , cats & fritz all real favourites.... With all the woodland, wildlife including water vole and even otters & badgers spotted it's certainly worth a visit.... We have had an amazing last couple of years with great fly-fishing results and meeting old and new friends and having what, members keep telling us ''A brilliant years fishing'' with some high bag limits and many doubles of rainbows, browns, some nice size blues and best of all our amazing tiger trout.
We have completed phase 3 of our massive revamp of the estate just finishing all the piers and adding some exciting new ones.(march 2011) with easy parking adjacent to them. The new access road has also been completed behind the Fin lodge giving easier and more private access around the lake.
We have finally built our fantastic 5* 'Tree house ' which will provide a truely unique holiday experience.
The fishing reception has been revamped with tea, coffee ,hot soup and biscuits... All complimentry. Our quaint summer house with stags heads & antiquities has been kept in good oder with complimentry bottled water still proving to be a real fishermens den for those showery days. The shop has certainly been well supported and i am to continue with my commitment to providing competitively priced tackle with a huge selection of flies still at only 50p , its certainly worth a visit before you buy elsewhere.
With our unique setting and accomadation we are now very well respected fly-fishing venue in the northwest, and have visitors from all over england. Last year we won northwest in Bloom again after planting 3000+ new trees and landscaping the 34 acre estate. We have also just been awarded GOLD award for green tourism recognising our commitment to sustainability & 5 * rating in our lakeside lodges. With this in mind we will continue to improve the quality and variety of fishing whilst maintaining the tranquillity of our fabulous site.
Members may bring their own boat free of charge to moor on the new private members pier and electric engines can also be used.
Last year was another successful year to date with our membership closing early with ’ 50 ’ members for the 2nd time in its’ 44 years history, with 2600+ fish being caught with an average of 3.8 fish per person per visit .Although the 2011summer has been the 2nd hottest on record ( the Met office has recorded ) not making the fly fishing the easiest this July / August with many fisheries struggling but with Cleveleymere's deep water and constant water movement cooler temperatures were soon resumed in September to get the catch rates back up to normal ...
'Total Fly-Fishing’ magazine editor rated this estate as the best he had staying at with an excellent write-up of 5 pages in last year’s magazine. ‘Fly Fisherman’ visited us in late September after catching 20+ fish said of all the hundreds of fly fisheries they visited they rated this as well up as the most scenic they have ever fished .
We are constantly monitoring how the weather and changing seasons affect the insect life and fishing and what flies and techniques are required to catch fish all year round here at Cleveley Mere. We are always more than happy to pass this information on to you.
The best flies were small black ,brown and green epoxy buzzers ,diawl bachs, GRHE, and pheasant-tail nymph.
Many rods reported being broken by big fish. With the right weather conditions and techniques good bags of fish have been caught throughout every month of the year.
The
Bright sunshine also puts the fish down .When many of us are struggling to catch fish during the dog days of July and August good bags were regularly caught by anglers using very fine leaders max 3-4lb B S and fishing very small dark wet & dry fly’s,16,18 & 20 particularly buzzer, CDC’s, Shipman’s, Diawl backs, Sedges, Griffith, Gnats, Pheasant tail, GRHE, beetles in the surface film static, on the drift, or cast at moving fish.
The barley straw has been added as usual to keep the algae bloom in control. The lake has been stocked each month primarily with rainbows up to 10lb + some browns ,goldern & blues and of course our tiger trout will also be added for for variety. The first stocking of 500 + in February, with 850 rainbow & browns .end of March ….then monthly stocking throughout the season with some large doubles at our members’ request…

NEWS FLASH -January to June catch rates last year were an average 4.3 fish per person per visit & EVERY- fly fisherman who visited ½ day or more caught –Beat that!
Although fish costs and running costs have rocketed we have made a conscious decision to look after our members and have again not raised our prices ……. STRICTLY 50 LIMITED MEMBERSHIPS ARE NOW AVAILABLE AT LAST YEARS PRICES…due now….. DATED FROM DATE OF JOINING FOR 6 MONTHS BOR 12 MONTHS…

Those members who are on ’ take 2’ fish memberships we have kept the prices the same to take fish once 2/3 times and no bigger fish than approx. 3lb
So helping to maintain our prices and leaves the bigger fish and all browns and tigers for another time. Thank you
