Our Environmental Policy
We are fully committed to providing you, our clients with a high quality service whilst minimising the environmental impact of our activities. We are members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme, which provides accreditation and encouragement for sustainable tourism, ensuring the continued enjoyment of the environment around us for future generations.
Whilst here we would encourage our guests to consider their environmental impact and where possible to:
- Feed vegetable trimmings/waste to our chickens
- Use separate bins provided for bottles/cans and paper
- Support local food producers and restaurants
- Switch off when not in use
- Save water and towels where you can
- Put hazardous waste (ie batteries) in the special bin at the recycling center
In Return We Will
- Supply you with our delicious free range eggs
- Only use recycled paper products incl. our leaflets
- Provide eco hairdryers, wind-up torches and eco bulbs where we can
- Supply you with our home made jams and chutneys and local produce (in our Big Bowland Breakfast hampers)
- Supply you with environmentally friendly cleaning products in all lodges
- Provide free bikes, binoculars, picnic baskets, rowing boats, wellies and play area so you can enjoy all our low impact activities
- Offer recommendations of local restaurants and producers
- Supply you with local bottled Bowland water
- Encourage you around our wonderful natural environment here at the lake with a nature map you can take with you on your walks round the estate
- On-going tree planting programme
- Use a reed-bed sewage system (if interested more details below !!! )

Our Reed Bed System
We are fully committed to minimising the environmental impact of our lodges here at Cleveley Mere? Some of you might be interested to know that your lodge is linked to a natural reed bed sewage system.
We chose the reed bed system as an ecological alternative to a septic tank. As it is a natural soakaway system please help us by not putting anything (except loo paper) down the toilets and only use our supplied cleaning products (never bleach).
